HV OHTL Spacer Dampers

Spacer damper is used to suppress bundle conductor sub span oscillations that could cause damage to multi-conductor bundle systems & also control aeolian vibration as well as wake induced oscillation. The spacer damper is designed to maintain the original geometry of the bundle system against loads. It must also restore the bundle to normal posture after experiencing severe loads due to short-circuit currents, ice and wind. PTE has partnered with PFISTERER/IXOSIL Switzerland to manufacture spacer dampers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

A Stockbridge damper is used to protect mainly OHTL conductors from wind-induced vibrations. The most effective protection device was invented by George Stockbridge in 1924 in the form of an inertial energy absorber equipped with a stranded steel cable holding two weights. Despite many other damping devices that were invented during the last century, the Stockbridge type vibration damper is still the best technical & economical solution.
